Gambia’s Independent Electoral Commission’s (GIEC) chairman, Mustapha Carayol, will observe the US 2008 election programme at the invita t ion of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), GIEC revealed in a statement Wednesday. According to the statement, Carayol will leave for the US 30 October to join other observers who will take part in the programme which runs from 1 to 6 November. The programme offers educational and professional development opportunities for electoral executives from around the globe. "As a hallmark of this special programme, participants will be taken on an exclusive tour of polling places throughout the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area," the statement noted.
