International NGO Médecins Sans Frontière (MSF), which recently started operations in Niger - mainly in the Maradi region (670 Km east of Niamey) where it is taking care of ill-nourished children - has been ordered to leave the country, according to the private Radio Anfani in the region.

A

ccording to the radio, the departure of MSF from Maradi was the result of a decision by the Interior and Decentralisation Ministry, which gave no further details on the reasons for the decision.

MSF officials in the region have tried in vain to get more information on their expulsion.

The organisation played a decisive role in taking care of malnourished children in the Maradi region during a food crisis in 2005 in Niger.

The NGO had previously gotten into trouble with the Niger government, which is very sensitive to malnutrition and famine issues.
